Module 3: Seeking the Kingdom

The Bible text records that Jesus and the first generations of his followers preached the good news of the Kingdom of God.
Seeking the Kingdom—module 3 in the Scriptural Roots of Commerce—explores God’s kingdom in practical, livable terms.
“We know everything about life,” E. Stanley Jones wrote, “except how to live it. We need nothing so desperately as we need something to bring life into total unity and coherence and meaning and goal. We have become ripe—dead ripe—for rediscovery of the kingdom of God.”
In all fairness, it must be noted that the kingdom of God is not an easy sell in democratic cultures. We’ve heard preachers go so far as to ask, “Have you elected Jesus Christ as President in your life?” Sorry. Nice try. It’s just not the same.
This module scours the Bible text from cover to cover to learn what Jesus was talking about when he told his followers, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you.”
Everything is on the table when we start learning to serve at the pleasure of the King. As E. Stanley Jones sees it: “The more you see, the more you will see there is to be seen. It is an exciting adventure, a surprise around every corner, never a dull moment…You’re on the tiptoe of expectancy, life beckons.”
Every worker’s challenge lies in bringing ever greater territory under God’s rule.
